How does it work?
The phoneline is a point of contact to link up those in need of support with those willing to help. It works on a neighbour-to- neighbour principle. We have volunteers and contacts in every block in the Barbican so we should be able to connect you with someone hyper-local. The ambition is to be a one stop shop where you can find the person you need.
Is it linked to the House Groups?
Some house groups have arranged their own support systems and we have the contact details for them all and should be able to direct you appropriately. But no, it is not officially linked to the House Groups, The BA, The RCC or any other tenant / leaseholder group.
How do I pay for my shopping?
Once you have been connected with a volunteer, you should discuss with them how you will proceed and pay for shopping. Most people have found that repayments via banks transfer are the best method. The ambition is that everything is contact-free. It might be good to read over the protocols (coming soon)
Will you check on my relative even though they don’t need shopping?
Yes
Can you help direct me confidentially to the foodbank?
Yes.
Will you help people outside the Barbican Estate?
We will try and if not, we can direct you to local groups in adjacent areas.
I am self-isolating. Is there another way I can help?
The Foodbank needs donations and volunteers.
Do you know about the government parcels and official help during this period?
We have been in contact with the City on this and can endeavour to find out for you.
I have heard of the Barbican Errand Network and the Barbican Good Neighbour Network. Is that related?
Yes- we changed the name a couple of times in the first week or so.
